Have Pups?  Head on Over to the New
Park 'N Bark Dog Park in Mokena

5 Will County Forest Preserve Dog ParksThese days, it seems like dogs are everywhere!  And for good reason.

Did you know that ...

  • Dog ownership has grown 29% over the last decade?
  • Multiple-Dog households grew at an even faster rate?
  • The growth in the number of Dog Owners far exceeds our population growth?
  • Millennials and Boomers lead the way in growth in dog ownership?

There are many health benefits to be found for all those dogs (and their owners) during daily dog walks and playtime.  But dogs receive benefits from playing with other dogs too.

Pups are very social creatures.  They run and play harder when other dogs are involved.  They rid themselves of pent-up energy, become more social, and can even improve their behavior and social skills by playing with other canines.

So it's no wonder that dog parks are becoming a focal point of interest when dog owners are considering a move to a new community.  The existence of a dog park within a community proves to dog owners that the community is pet-friendly.  That the community is concerned about the safety and security of their pet(s).

Mokena, IL is one such community.  Opened recently, the Park 'N Bark Dog Park located on LaPorte Road next to the Yunker Park Site (and part of the Mokena Community Park District) offers a safe place for your pup to play and roam in the Lincoln-Way Area.

A pass is needed to take advantage of this new dog park facility.  Passes are sold at the Mokena Community Park District Administration Center.  (Re-registration is required every year.)

Costs for the park are as follows:

  • Mokena Resident's Pass:  $5 for 1st dog/$5 each additional dog
  • Non-Resident Pass:  $15/per year for 1st dog/$5 each additional dog

Each dog using the park must be up-to-date on the following immunizations:  Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Distemper, Rabies, and Parvovirus.  Bordatella (prevents spread of Kennel Cough) is recommended, but not required.

A link to the Park 'N Bark Dog Park Registration Packet is easily found HERE.  The Mokena Park District asks that all visitors (2-legged and 4) adhere to dog park rules while visiting.
