Real Estate Lessons from Historic Basketball Coach John Wooden ... Just in Time for March Madness

Real Estate Lessons from Historic
Basketball Coach John Wooden ...
Just in Time for March Madness

"March Madness" has arrived.  The annual NCAA Tournament that holds the attention of much of America, (and the world) has started and is in full gear.

If you're a basketball fan like I am, you're in your glory right now.  Basketball was like a religion in our house when I was growing up.  My 3 brothers and I all played from the moment we could hold a ball.

Three out of the four of us Mundt brothers have birthdays this week.  Great timing on Mom and Dad's part.  Multiple birthdays smack in the middle of March Madness.  Now THAT'S a real gift!

Needless to say, the basketball tournament will be on TV at our birthday gathering.  (Click HERE to find a printable 2013 bracket).  And historical games, basketball stars, stats, coaches ... will  all get talked and argued over.  One name that will surely pop up, is that of Coach John Wooden

John Wooden was a legendary basketball coach at  UCLA for years.  He coached some of pro basketballs best.  Bill WaltonKareem Abdul-JabbarWalt HazzardMarques Johnson all played under his watch.  His coaching stats were absolutely phenomenal.  Under his lead, UCLA won the NCAA championship 10 times.  His lifetime winning average was .804.  And his teams once had a consecutive winning streak of 88 games.  Not too shabby ...

The other day, I came upon a site that listed some of Coach Wooden's famous quotes.  And it hit me that many of the quotes could pertain to real estate today, real estate professionals, the act of buying a home, and obtaining a mortgage.  Below are some examples that I thought were especially appropriateSee what you think ...

   Regarding Pre-Qualifying
   & Obtaining a Loan:

      "Be Prepared and Be Honest"

"Don't let what you cannot do,
interfere with what you can do"

"Failure is not fatal, but failure to change might be"

Wise words for Real Estate Agents:

"Earn the right to be proud and confident"

"Never mistake activity for achievement"

And some profound words for myself and other Lenders:

"If I am through learning, I am through"

"It's the little details that are vital.
Little things make big things happen"

"Discipline yourself, and others won't need to"

And my favorites for all of us in real estate ...

"It isn't what you do, but how you do it"

"If you don't have time to do it right ...
when will you have time to do it over?"
